Kampo: The Japanese System of Herbal Medicine

Kampo is the Japanese adaptation of Chinese herbal medicine. The principles of Chinese medicine arrived in Japan between the 7th and 9th centuries, where they evolved into a highly structured, systematic herbal diagnostic and treatment approach. The word “Kampo” literally means “the way of the Han Chinese.”

I am one of the few Kampo practitioners in the United States, having trained with Nigel Dawes, L.Ac., a leading expert in this field. I chose to specialize in Kampo because of its precision and reliability. Its diagnostic system allows me to match formulas to each patient’s constitution accurately, resulting in effective and targeted treatment.
